Broken Arrow shows every distance doubled. A missile whose range in the game's data is 1000 m reads 2000 m on its unit card, and it reaches a point the map's cursor readout also calls 2000 m away. From the game's code This site shows distances the way the game does, so its figures match what you see in the game.
What the game doubles
The game stores every horizontal distance in metres of its world: ranges, optics, map sizes. When it shows one to a player, it doubles it. From the game's code
- The unit card. A round's line shows the largest of its ground, low-altitude and high-altitude ranges, multiplied by a setting called
EffectiveRangeMultiplier, which is 2.0. A weapon's line does the same. From the game's code - The map readout. The distance shown next to the cursor is twice the world distance, rounded down to 5 m. Here the ×2 is written into the code itself rather than read from the setting. From the game's code
So everything a player can read in the game uses one scale. A Stinger whose data says LowAltRange 1000 is shown as reaching 2000 m, and it engages at 1000 m of map, which the cursor readout also calls 2000 m. From the game's code
The world itself is real size
Only the display is scaled. The distances in the data are the world's own. From the game's data
- Units are their real size. An M1A2 Abrams is 7.6 m long, a UH-60M 15.27 m and a Su-35S 22 m. From the game's data
- Maps are 54 to 81 km². In world units they run from 9000 × 6000 to 12 000 × 9000, close to the developers' "huge maps up to 100 square kilometer". Doubled, they would reach 324 km². From the game's data
- Spotting works in world distances. The fog of war's constants, such as the 45 m inside which a unit is always detected, are world distances. From the game's data
So weapons engage, and units see, at the data's distances; only the numbers on screen are doubled. From the game's data
How we know
The doubling was read from the game's code and its configuration. From the game's code Patch notes and players' figures agree with it at a ratio of 2, and no figure fits a ratio of 1: From the game's own text
| Source | Shown | In the data |
|---|---|---|
| Patch 1.2.1: JAGM range reduced to 1.8 km | 1800 m | 900 |
| Patch 1.2.1: JAGM-MR, "2 km range" | 2000 m | 1000 |
| Patch 1.2.1: Spetsnaz Vympel optics fixed to 1.75 km | 1750 m | 875 |
| Players: infantry with "1750m vision" | 1750 m | 875 |
What this means on this site
- Every distance is the game's figure. Weapon ranges, optics, spread and blast radius are shown doubled, as the game shows distances. Worked out by this site
- The map planner draws real distances. The planner's vision and range circles are drawn at the data's distances on the map, and its readouts use the game's scale. Worked out by this site
- Comparing with another tool. A tool that prints the data's raw numbers will show half of what you see here and in the game. Worked out by this site
